"Well, this is just great," Mark muttered, the words barely audible. His voice was a low growl, directed at no one in particular. This had to be some sort of cosmic joke. *Mrs. Chen*. The very woman who had marked his papers with red pen and pointed out his failings. Now, she would be shaping his daughter, Lily’s, education.

He slammed the lid on the laptop, the sudden noise filling the otherwise quiet living room. He felt a burning heat in his cheeks, a flush of anger and embarrassment. The very thought of his child being judged under the same gaze made his palms sweat.

He stood and began pacing, feeling a restless energy. He needed to find a way to get out of this. He needed to protect Lily from the weight of his own past.
